Plan Vélo: the evidence of confinement

Since the start of the health crisis linked to Covid-19, the French have taken their bikes out of the closet. In all major cities, but also in rural areas, bicycle trips have greatly increased. The Cycling Plan initiated by the government in September 2018 then takes on its full meaning. 

This is why many local actors have invested in the development of cycling structures. We are also witnessing a democratization of aid for the acquisition of a bicycle. The French State itself has decided to intensify its measures to encourage the cycling in daily travel. 

Faced with this extremely positive observation, the State has decided to launch a national holiday: “Mai à Vélo”. The objective is to anchor the practice of cycling in French culture. The first edition will take place in May 2021. 

Coup de Pouce Vélo funding assistance

The other new measure taken by the government concerns Operation Bike Boost. In view of its success, a tripling of the budget for this operation was voted by the government. 

The Coup de Pouce Vélo program funds bike repairs up to €50. It also offers a support session for the use of the bicycle. In addition, the program covers 60% of the cost of installing temporary bicycle parking spaces for communities, multimodal hubs, educational establishments, social landlords and student residences. 

Of course, the street furniture developed by Vélo Galaxie can be partly financed by this aid.
