Paris does not keep its promises of cycle paths

According to the Association Paris in Selle, the project of the municipality of Paris to develop nearly 180 km of cycle paths by 2026 is late.

Indeed, four years before the deadline, only 15% of the green runs have been completed. These 15% represent only 30 km and those are only "perpetuations of" coronapists "[the temporary cycle paths put in place at the exit of the first confinement], in hard or thanks to qualitative light urban planning "according to the door - word of the association.

No new track developed in two years?

Of the 30 km of cycle paths, only 1,5 km are new. This explains why only 1,5 km of cycle paths were built in two years when the mayor had announced nearly 130 km of new bicycle constructions.
While the number of cyclists riding at bike in the city of Paris has increased by almost 78% between 2019 and 2021, the capital remains dangerous for cyclists. The lanes are not marked and cyclists are exposed to road danger from motorists and motorized two-wheelers.
Still according to the spokesperson for Paris en Selle, this delay is due to "too loose political management" and "a lack of ambitious arbitration on the part of David Belliard" while the fund allocated to this project is 250 million euros.

Firm decisions to carry out the project

In order to prevent the Plan vélo à Paris from falling too far behind the needs of people who circulate and live in the city, it is imperative that the town hall resumes the saddle and reframes the project aimed at developing new cycle paths throughout the capital.
This is important given that the number of bicycle users continues to increase and that most cars will no longer be allowed to enter the capital. New arrangements are needed to guarantee the security cyclists and other road users. The work should not only remain for the maintenance and sustainability of the already existing coronapists.
It should be noted that the Association Paris en Selle follows very closely the development of cycle paths in the city of Paris. It keeps up-to-date information on the project adopted by the city on the construction of new greenways to meet the needs of cyclists.
