The French want to reduce their environmental impact linked to transport

Greener transport

According to the results of the Ipsos survey for Vinci Autoroutes, nearly 90% of French people want to reduce the impact of their travel on the environment. They do indeed care about the carbon footprint generated by the daily use of polluting vehicles and they are ready to invest in cleaner means of transport. Of the 4 people surveyed, 000% believe it is possible to achieve this goal.

Replace polluting vehicles with clean vehicles

The Ipsos survey was carried out in 2021. It therefore focuses on the evolution of modes of transport during the health crisis, in particular during the confinement phases. It is true that 87% of respondents confirmed that they still use the same means of transport as before covid-19, but 54% of them say that their mode of travel really has negative impacts on the climate and the planet.

In fact, 65% of those surveyed use the car to go to work and 69% also travel by car to go on vacation. These respondents do not have a real choice, since they live in peri-urban areas. But they are aware of the pollution problem caused by the frequent use of cars.

Hence 35% of them are ready to replace their fuel car with a hybrid car or an electric car, 34% want to move towards walking or cycling with better adapted cities and 30% want to buy a hydrogen car. 55% of those questioned even aspire to find a solution to the environmental problem related to their transport within five years.

Encourage the use of electric cars

To further encourage the French to use clean vehicles, additional incentives must be put in place.

Admittedly, it is currently possible to benefit from the ecological bonus of 2 to 000 euros when purchasing an electric vehicle. But this is still not enough to convince consumers. Lowering the price of clean vehicles, including making them more affordable than fuel-powered cars, would ease the transition.

Aside from that, there is also a need for more infrastructure to charge electric vehicles. It is precisely necessary to multiply the electrical terminals so that this no longer constitutes a brake on the purchase and to solve the problems of dry breakdown.

If at the time of speaking, there are 31 charging stations in the country, there should be at least 000 in 100. And of course, betting everything on electric vehicles will not solve the purely ecological question. Only the development of diversified levers for multimodal transport will allow a real ecological transition. The question of transport is above all the question of changing our way of life. It's not just a matter of available technology. So, no hesitation, we go back to bike !
